Camelopardalis was a song we tried to design using only elements we'd already used previously. It was a little tricky, but bits and pieces of all previous 11 tracks made it into this song.
Lyrically, we really needed to tie things together and have some closure. A lot of this album stemmed from the idea of feeling like we'd lost out on something we really desired, and kind of that stressful awful feeling of knowing you'll never get it back again. This song attempts to seek some some of peace from those feelings, and whether of not we find them in the words, I think we can certainly feel them in the last instrumental bit before the album concludes - at least, that's what we attempted to do.
(Also noteworthy, Camelopardalis is a giraffe constellation in the sky. Pretty odd picture, right? Seemed like a quality way to end an experimental concept album.)
lyrics
Cast me from this picture, I must be floating away
When did I stumble down here into this angelic array?
Are you hiding in the boughs of the golden summer trees?
Are you lost in the constellations and the gentle breeze?
And I can still see your smile
And I can still feel your breath here
You can't be that far away
Oh, the stars, falling from the sky
Oh, the stars, shimmering tonight
Where were you when I fell through?
Where were you? I need the truth
I can feel it in the wind
And I know you've felt it too
I'm called to other places
They don't involve you
This vault of stars above us
Moves overhead with grace
I finally have direction
You need time and I need space
What to do with all these memories?
When all the lights go out, when all the lights go out
I know I couldn't stop you, why did you go so soon?
When all the lights go out, when all the lights go out
